Congratulations to the Breast team and Mr Said Khan for Winning the Frimley award presented by the chief executive Lance McCarthy.
The team planned the surgery well in advance as part of a multidisciplinary meeting to optimise the results for the patient who required Mastectomy and Immediate DIEP tummy flap breast reconstruction with Microsurgery.
This collaboration of breast surgeons and plastic surgeons ensures that patients get world class treatment @frimleyhealth

“What’s that bit in the middle under the nose called?”
This is a common question I get asked and it’s called the ‘column’.
Surgeons call this the columella. The point is that patients do not need to know all the technical terms for the nose when they go and see their surgeon.
You just need to be clear on what your aspirations are and what you want to achieve. You should feel comfortable with your discussion with the surgeon.
Surgeons all strive to make sure the Columella is in the center so that the nostrils look even. In the weeks after surgery, there is always swelling and maybe some unevenness but this will improve over time as the swelling gets better.
We are proud of the whole team who published our work that focuses on the Columella in the American Journal of Plastic Surgery.

Great meeting this evening of the Breast Cancer Patient’s Group at Frimley Health NHS Trust. The patients shared some personal stories of their experiences of recovery from cancer treatment and breast reconstruction with tummy flaps (DIEP).
Talking about their own journey, helped other patients who are waiting for surgery, to understand their treatment much better.
Everyone talked about the effect on themselves and their families which was touching to hear.
Big thanks to Kamal the Plastic Specialist Nurse Practitioner and Tooba the Registrar in surgery for their invaluable contribution.
