Is it painful?

Patients say that the process is pretty painless. Although some patients might feel a little discomfort for a short period afterward. Bruising is a possibility and swelling is likely. Most patients can go back to work the next day; with make up if needed.

How long does it last?

“The filler dissolves slowly,” Dr Uppal explaines. “It is something that chnages over time. Some people notice the changes sooner, and for others, it takes longer.”

It can help your nose appear straighter, but it doesn’t make it smaller.

Dr Uppal says, a nonsurgical rhinoplasty doesn’t make the nose smaller. In fact, the fillers add volume to your nose, making it larger. It can, however, make a bump less visible or refine the shape of the nose. Dr Uppal says, “The art is to use very small volumes of filler to enhance the appearance and hide any features that you don’t like.”

What if you totally hate the result?

One of the benefits of nonsurgical rhinoplasty, Dr Uppal said, “is that if someone were to hate it, it can be removed by finger pressure or in some cases by an injection of an enzyme that dissolves the filler and you’re back to where you started.”

The enzyme used to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers is called hyaluronidase; if the fillers used were not hyaluronic acid-based such as Restylane then this enzyme will not break them down. Dr Uppal avoids using permanent fillers and does not recommend them.

Most doctors agreed that, generally speaking, the procedure should be considered a short-term solution that works best when used for fairly minor adjustments. It’s also not typically used to treat any functional issues one might be dealing with ― like problems with the sinuses ― whereas a surgical rhinoplasty can.

As the fillers won’t hold their shape forever repeated procedures may be needed. This is especially true when trying to add volume along the top of the nose or the end of the nose.

“It all depends how thick your skin is. Skin thickness is genetic and can’t be changed. If you have thin skin you may need more filler than thick skin,” says Dr Uppal.

Fillers can fill in areas that are slightly curved.

“Using the filler to fill in gaps or shadows to build the nose up and make it look straight,” he said. “You’re just filling in little areas and creating an illusion to make the nose appear straighter.”

The nonsurgical rhinoplasty can also be used to make “microscopic changes” that don’t necessarily affect other parts of the nose over time.

Some people also undergo a nonsurgical rhinoplasty before going for surgery to give them idea of what they might look like if they choose to go under the knife, the doctors noted. With that being said, Dr Uppal suggested that if someone knows they ultimately want surgery, they shouldn’t have the nonsurgical procedure done more than two or three times maximum. Remember that having filler 3 times is the same cost as surgery.

What does it cost?

Another reason nonsurgical or liquid nose job or rhinoplasties might be best for the short term is the cost, which can range anywhere from £1200 to £2200 per visit.
